The Security Dilemma

Conventional security cannot protect open spaces.

Traditional weapons detection forces people to stop, queue, and submit to screening. That works at an airport with a single controlled gate. It cannot work at a shopping centre, a stadium concourse, or a city plaza. The moment you create a screening lane, you change the nature of the space — and hand attackers a predictable, densely packed target.

Current means secure chokepoints, not areas

The moment you introduce a screening lane, you transform an open space into a controlled checkpoint: changing how people move, how they use it, and what it means to be there. Traditional detection only works where everyone can be funnelled through a single gate. This cannot be the case for open, public spaces.

Active systems exclude the medically vulnerable

Strong magnetic fields from conventional detectors pose a real risk to people with pacemakers or other active implanted devices thus creating a class of people who cannot safely pass through standard screening.

Privacy should be a priority

Freedom of movement and privacy should be guaranteed in public spaces. Asking people to empty their pockets or submit to physical contact is incompatible with normal public life, and, at the scale of a city plaza or transit hub, it is simply not viable. Security technology should work discreetly in the background, identifying potential threats without collecting personal information or revealing private belongings.

Angely’s technology originates from spacecraft magnetic cleanliness, the highly specialized discipline of measuring, modelling, and controlling minute magnetic fields to meet the strict noise requirements of space missions.

Our founders bring a cumulative of more than 120 years of experience in this field through the EMTECH group of companies, which has and continues to deliver a range of electromagnetic cleanliness projects to organizations including ESA and other large system integrators.

Angely translates this heritage into proprietary hardware capable of measuring DC and AC magnetic fields with exceptional temporal and magnitude resolution, supported by advanced modelling software and deep domain expertise.

For concealed-weapons detection, this space-derived magnetic technology is fused with locally processed visual data. Crowd-sensing neural networks interpret the movement and dynamics of the scene, while the combined magnetic and visual data enable the system not only to detect a potential concealed weapon, but also to track it as its carrier moves.

The result is a powerful, privacy-conscious security technology built on proven space-industry methods, without facial recognition or privacy-invasive imaging.

Thanasis Kotsaras

Co-Founder

Thanasis Kotsaras is a co-founder and the CEO of Angely. He began his career at EMTECH SPACE as a physicist and software engineer, supporting the definition, design, and development of magnetic modelling algorithms and related hardware facilities. He brings this know-how to Angely, serving as the cornerstone of the effort across both the business and technical sides of the company.
